WXTC, Charleston, SC Original Control Room

This photo was taken in the original control room of WXTC, the AC station I did PM drive for and programmed for 9-and-a-half years. Notable WXTC personalities during that time included Mark Cardnella, Donna McCoy, Larry Nylin, Janet Walsh, Tom Kennedy, and Bill Shoemaker. When I started at WXTC in 1985, the studios were at 475 East Bay Street. 1989's Hurricane Hugo trashed them big time, so we rebuilt across the street at 478 East Bay -- and made sure the studios were on the second floor this time. This console later found use in one of the production studios of the Clear Channel Charleston group of stations.

Radio Aire, Leeds, England Control Room

While visiting my friend DJ Carl Kingston in the UK in the late '80s, he let me do a 3-hour show on one of the stations he was working at, Radio Aire in Leeds.

WJUK, Charleston, SC Control Room

I was Program Director and Morning Man for All-70s station WJUK in Charleston in 1995. The station was automated, with all of the music coming from four CD jukeboxes. WJUK was the first station I worked for that had non-musical elements like spots and jingles played off computer instead of tape.
